Read carefullly before buying -- items in mirror are closer (and smaller) than they appear
All the little Le Creuset fruit and veggie "petites" are smaller than their overstated capacity. If it says it holds 12 ounces, then just assume 10. If it says 10 ounces, assume a scant 8. And if it only gives you the 5" x 5" dimensions, just assume 7 ounces at the ouside.
That said, the little tomato, the pumpkin, the garlic and the peppers are all just wonderful little (verrrry little) individual bakers/servers. Great for tiny mac & cheese, baked pasta dishes, individula tamale pies or baked cheese grits.... And the fruit petites make great cobblers, mini-cakes, and fruit soup dishes.
Just know that all the petites with the exception of the older and hard to find garlic, and the new little dutch oven shaped petites are actually made of Le Creuset stoneware and NOT enameled cast iron.
With that info in hand, you shouldn't be disappointed -- and you can really enjoy the cleverness of the designs and color/variety they bring to the table.
Le Creuset Petite Stoneware Tomato
This item is a very cute stoneware casserole dish from the garden collection produced by Le Creuset. I purchased this item as a display piece for my kitchen, not as actual cookware. The stoneware is dishwasher safe.
I guess if I wanted to cook with the petite casseroles, I would want several of the same type of dish (i.e. 4 petite tomatoes instead of a petite tomato, garlic, pepper and eggplant casseroles). This would ensure similar cooking times due to the different shapes and volume(s) of the various fruit & vegetable dishes.
